I have COVID-19. What should I do?
If you test positive, stay home and away from others.
You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
When you go back to your normal activities, take added precaution over the next 5 days, such as taking additional steps for cleaner air, hygiene, masks, physical distancing, and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors.
If your symptoms are severe, go to the emergency room. For example, if you have trouble breathing, new confusion, persistent pain or pressure in your chest.
Older adults and people who have other health conditions like heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, or pregnancy have a higher chance of getting very sick or needing to go to the hospital from COVID-19.
After testing positive, call your doctor right away to see if you qualify for medicines that can lower your chances of getting very sick.
Other tips:
Improve ventilation (air flow) at home to help prevent COVID-19 from spreading to other people
Practice every day hygiene and cleaning and avoid sharing personal household items
Wear a high-quality mask or respirator when around other people
