When should I take my child to their first dentist appointment?

When you have a child, it is routine to take them regularly to their pediatrician. But you might be wondering, when should I start bringing them to the dentist, too? The American Dental Association recommends bringing your child to the dentist after their first tooth has popped through, and no later than their first birthday. Why is this? As soon as your child has teeth, they have the possibility of developing cavities.

At the Lincoln County Health Department, Dr. Emily is prepared to work with your child and teach them why keeping their teeth healthy is important. At our office, we really focus on prevention! This means that we may spend time teaching your child how to properly brush their teeth by using props and videos. Keeping your child’s teeth healthy when they are young will set them up for a lifetime of healthy habits!
